... and you decide Yongpyong (http://www.yongpyong.co.kr/eng/about/intro.asp) is the place for you, I want to recommend you consider staying at "Terrace on a cloud" (http://www.terrace700.com/). 'Terrace on a cloud' is a 'pension', i.e. condo/villa, located in the town of hoenggye (pronounced hwain-gay), about 10 mins away from yongpyong resort. Its a brand new pension and the owner, Mr. Jung, was one of the BEST things about the trip some of took to yongpyong over solnal. First off, the pension is CLEAN, MODERN, and BEAUTIFUL. We stayed in four georgeous rooms and ended up paying 41,000 won/person/night. This was about 20,000 won/person/night less than staying in a 'comparable' place on the resort grounds. That said, the service we got at terrace on a cloud was incomparable and significantly raised the value of what we received for our money. From helping with the ski rental shop to driving us back to the pension when we left the resort late and cabs WOULDN'T COME GET US to bringing us homemade rice cake soup for solnal to helping bus driver find us the night we were getting picked up to be taken back to EVto just being a warm, loving person, we couldn't have stayed at a better place!!!
I also recommend you consider renting a car in town. As I mentioned, cabs are a little hard to come by--at least at night--at yongpyong.
regards, anand
